We had an excellent dinner, and great night of dancing last night in the wonderful Queen’s Hotel & Spa in Bournemouth.

This morning’s workshops kept everyone busy and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone’s outfits for tonight’s ‘Guys and Molls’ theme (and obviously we’ll pop some photos on our socials later today).

Erin Boag Workshop Day

Join us on Sunday 10th November for an afternoon of Ballroom Dance workshops as we welcome back Strictly legend Erin Boag.

Four workshops

• 2pm Waltz
• 3pm Foxtrot
• 4pm Tango
• 5pm Viennese

Each workshop costs £25pp but you can get a block booking discount of all four for £70, £57.50 for any three workshops, or £42.50 for any two.

Glastonbury Dance Break

Next year’s Glastonbury Dance Break will take place from Friday 7th – Sunday 9th March 2025.

This break will focus on Viennese Waltz, and the theme of the Saturday night will be ‘Viennese Ball’.

The break costs £225pp but you can save £15pp if you book and pay in full by 30th November 2024.

All solo rooms are now fully booked and we’re 45% booked in total! There are only 8 double rooms remaining.

Emma and Antony took their [semi]regular trip to Wimbledon last weekend and as well as getting to watch Alfie Hewett win his first singles title, they also managed to get over for his doubles final too…and get themselves onto the Today at Wimbledon highlights show in the process!

Parking Charges at the Cherry Orchard

You may have seen the new parking machines, and the notice attached to them, about charging for parking at the Cherry Orchard to be introduced in September.

We have clarified with Burnham Parish Council that our students will continue to receive free parking when visiting the studio, subject to entering your number plate in the tablet.

However you will need to make sure you enter your number plate EVERY TIME YOU VISIT as there will now only be 30 minutes of free parking during the day, as opposed to the 2hrs currently offered.

We recommend that, if you don’t already enter your number plate every time you come, that you get into the habit of doing so before 1st September!

Sunday Evening Cancelled

Due to England making the Euro 2024 cup final on Sunday night we have cancelled the Sunday evening beginner and improver classes.

The beginner Social Foxtrot course will still be running as normal however.

Let’s hope we all have a great weekend!

YouTube…A Basic Waltz Pattern

The first progressive sequence we look at in our beginner Waltz classes is a zig-zag pattern down the room. We use a left foot change step, a quarter turn to the right, a back left foot change step, then a quarter turn to the left. At a corner you can then use a left foot change step, and the quarter turn to the left to turn to your next wall.

Our next few videos start building up towards the full basic Waltz pattern.

On Saturday 18th May Kristina Rihanoff will be visiting to provide a morning of Latin American dance workshops.

There will be four workshops at the following times:

Simply Swing Live Band Event

For our June social we have invited a wonderful Ballroom and Latin American band, Simply Swing, to come to the studio.

The evening will feature 3 x 40minute live sets, with recorded music provided during the breaks.

As well as DB&B our students will also have access to their indoor pool and jacuzzi, as well as discounted spa treatments.

This year’s break will be Quickstep & Jive with a ‘Guys & Molls’ theme to the Saturday night.

The cost will be £315pp, with a £70 single person supplement. You can save £15pp if you book and pay in full before 30th April.

There are also upgrades available (based on 2 sharing) of £20pp to a Supreme Double or £40pp to a Junior Suite.

We only have 1 Supreme Doubles and 1 Junior Suite remaining. All Solo Rooms are now fully booked. We only have 7 rooms remaining from our allocation!

Here we’re adding a back quarter turn (steps 4-6 of a reverse turn but under-turned) that will allow us to build up towards moving around the room, as well as give you a handy ‘get out of trouble’ move later on.

On a brisk November afternoon, we had the pleasure of hosting extraordinary dance workshops led by none other than the Strictly legend herself, Erin Boag. The event, held on the 12th of November 2023, transformed our usual space into a vibrant dance floor, where amateurs and seasoned dancers alike could explore the world of ballroom dancing under Erin’s expert guidance.

The Setting

As the participants arrived, the air buzzed with excitement and the soft murmur of anticipation. Erin Boag, with her ever-radiant smile and undeniable charm, made everyone feel instantly welcome and eager to start.

The Workshop

Erin began the workshop with a warm-up, easing everyone into the mood with basic steps that gradually built up in complexity. Her teaching style was both inspiring and accessible, making it easy for each participant to follow along regardless of their skill level.

As the afternoon progressed, Erin introduced more intricate sequences and techniques. Participants not only learned the steps but also received tips on posture, presentation, and how to convey emotion through dance.

The Energy

The energy in the room was palpable. Laughter and music filled the air, creating a joyful and supportive atmosphere. It was a sight to behold as everyone moved in sync, their faces lit up with the joy of dance. Our Learn American Smooth course is ideally suited for dancers with experience in Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, and Viennese Waltz. However, beginners with a keen interest are welcome to join the initial course to experience the magic of American Smooth.
