News & Events Coming Up

New Parking Restrictions

There are new parking restrictions in force at the Cherry Orchard.

Only the first 30 minutes of parking are now free (previously 2 hours) between the hours of 7am-7pm. There will still be no parking for the general public after 7pm.

Learn To Dance students will still receive free parking so long as they enter their number plate in the tablet provided.

This means that every student will need to enter their number plate when they arrive, but still only once per day.

Halloween Social

Our Halloween Social takes place on Friday 25th October. Doors open 7.30pm with dancing through to 10pm.

Dressing up is not compulsory but appreciated.

Tickets cost £8pp and advance booking is recommended.

Our Winter Dinner & Dance takes place on Friday 8th November.

Places cost £40pp and include a welcome drink and two course menu. We’re already 25% booked!

Ceilidh Live Band Event

On Friday 31st January 2025 we’ll be welcoming a live Ceilidh Band, Nedron’s Jig, to the studio for a fabulous Ceilidh night.

There’ll be a caller to instruct us in the various dances and it promises to be an entertaining evening.

Glastonbury Dance Weekend

Our 2025 Glastonbury Dance Weekend is on sale. The weekend’s dance will be Viennese Waltz, with a Viennese Ball theme to the Saturday night.

Places costs £225pp, with an early bird booking discount of £15 if you pay in full by 30th November.

18th Anniversary Party

Back in April we celebrated 18 years since the formation of Learn To Dance!

We are so grateful to all our students for their continued support. It’s great to say that we are finally back to full strength after all these post-COVID years.

In fact we’re already starting to make preparations for our grand 20 year anniversary in 2026!!!

Kristina Rihanoff

It was an intense set of sessions back in May with an afternoon of Latin American workshops with Kristina Rihanoff.

There were a lot of technical elements for the students to take away and work on, along with a few fun sequences they could add in to their existing repertoire.

Our next Strictly workshop day is Sunday 10th November with Erin Boag.

Simply Swing Live Band Event

Our first ever live band event at Learn To Dance took place on Friday 28th June.

It was amazing to be able to dance to live music in the studio and we received amazing feedback from the event.

We look forward to welcoming them back hopefully next year!

No Tea Dance on Friday 9th August

There will be no Friday afternoon tea dance on Friday 9th August. Tea Dances on Monday 5th and 12th August are unaffected and the sessions will resume on Friday 16th August.

Summer Dinner & Dance

Our summer dinner & dance takes place on Friday 9th August. Doors open at 7pm with food ready around 7.30pm/7.45pm.

The menu includes a selection of meats, halloumi kebabs, five side dishes and a summer dessert.

The evening costs £40pp and includes a welcome drink. We only have 3 places remaining! Bookings close Friday 2nd August.

Beginner Jive Course

There will be a beginner Jive course (triple-step not Rock and Roll) starting from Sunday 8th September.

The four week course costs £35pp and is available to book now.

Quickstep Course

We will have a 6-week Quickstep course starting from Monday 9th September.

The course will start with a focus on the basics, and improving your technique, before moving on to a variety of figures for navigating the floor.

The course costs £50pp and is available to book now.

Foxtrot American Smooth Course

We will be continuing with the theme of American Smooth in September, this time focusing on the Foxtrot.

With this course we will show you a number of moves and figures that you can introduce into your regular Foxtrot (or entirely in place of) to get around the floor with some added pizazz!

The 6-week course costs £50pp and is available to book now. You do not need to have attended the previous American Smooth courses.

We took the kids to Butlin’s in Bognor Regis last weekend, which included a visit to their on-site circus.

As well as a variety of high energy acts we also got to enjoy a display of flamenco that was further augmented by the introduction of their own musical accompaniment.

Parking Charges at the Cherry Orchard

You may have seen the new parking machines, and the notice attached to them, about charging for parking at the Cherry Orchard to be introduced in September.

We have clarified with Burnham Parish Council that our students will continue to receive free parking when visiting the studio, subject to entering your number plate in the tablet.

However you will need to make sure you enter your number plate EVERY TIME YOU VISIT as there will now only be 30 minutes of free parking during the day, as opposed to the 2hrs currently offered.

We recommend that, if you don’t already enter your number plate every time you come, that you get into the habit of doing so before 1st September!

Bournemouth Dance Weekend

Our Bournemouth Dance Weekend will take place at The Queens Hotel & Spa this year from Friday 4th-Sunday 6th October.

As well as DB&B our students will also have access to their indoor pool and jacuzzi, as well as discounted spa treatments.

This year’s break will be Quickstep & Jive with a ‘Guys & Molls’ theme to the Saturday night.

The cost will be £315pp, with a £70 single person supplement.

There are also upgrades available (based on 2 sharing) of £20pp to a Supreme Double or £40pp to a Junior Suite.

We only have 1 Supreme Doubles and 1 Junior Suite remaining. All Solo Rooms are now fully booked. We only have 4 rooms remaining from our allocation!

On a brisk November afternoon, we had the pleasure of hosting extraordinary dance workshops led by none other than the Strictly legend herself, Erin Boag. The event, held on the 12th of November 2023, transformed our usual space into a vibrant dance floor, where amateurs and seasoned dancers alike could explore the world of ballroom dancing under Erin’s expert guidance.

The Setting

As the participants arrived, the air buzzed with excitement and the soft murmur of anticipation. Erin Boag, with her ever-radiant smile and undeniable charm, made everyone feel instantly welcome and eager to start.

The Workshop

Erin began the workshop with a warm-up, easing everyone into the mood with basic steps that gradually built up in complexity. Her teaching style was both inspiring and accessible, making it easy for each participant to follow along regardless of their skill level.

As the afternoon progressed, Erin introduced more intricate sequences and techniques. Participants not only learned the steps but also received tips on posture, presentation, and how to convey emotion through dance.

The Energy

The energy in the room was palpable. Laughter and music filled the air, creating a joyful and supportive atmosphere. It was a sight to behold as everyone moved in sync, their faces lit up with the joy of dance. Erin’s enthusiasm was contagious; she moved through the crowd, offering encouragement and sharing laughs with the attendees.

Tango & Samba Course Extensions

Our one dance courses will be extended for an additional six weeks.

• Tango extension from Monday 19th February – BOOK NOW
• Samba extension from Wednesday 21st February – BOOK NOW

Courses cost £50pp

Silent Social

Following the success of last year’s Silent Social we are pleased to repeat this again on Red Nose Day, Friday 15th March 2024.

Every participant is issued a set of headphones that can tune into 3 separate channels. One channel will be playing Ballroom music, one Latin and one ‘general’.

Places cost £20pp and all profits are donated to charity. Last year we raised over £600 for Comic Relief!

Good Friday Afternoon Tea

Our Good Friday Afternoon Tea falls on Friday 29th March 2024 this year.

Places cost £27.50pp for this popular Easter-themed event (including ‘Hot Cross’ Scones!)

October Dance Break Provisional Dates

Those who regularly attend our October Bournemouth Dance Break know that unfortunately the hotel fell below expected standards over the last few years.

As such we began the hunt for a new location for our October dance weekend. This year will be Quickstep & Jive with a ‘Guys & Molls’ theme to the Saturday night.

Our initial impressions of a replacement hotel have been very positive, though we would have preferred a bigger dance floor.

However we are seriously considering booking the hotel as they potentially have our original weekend of 4th October available.
