    Instagram…I earn To Dance

Ok I knew I needed to order some new T-Shirts, but I hadn’t realised quite how bad it had got until a new student asked whether I had deliberately put ‘I earn To Dance’ on my top!

    Friday Classes New Location

Dancers doing the Spanish Line in a Paso Doble sequence during our Torquay dance break at TLH Leisure Resort

A reminder that our Friday afternoon classes are no longer run by the RBWM at Braywick Leisure Centre. We have decided to continue them for you at our studio in Burnham.

The costs will fall in line with all our other classes and so will be £8.50 per person, £38.25 for a block of 5 sessions (valid for 3 months) or £68 for a block of 10 sessions (valid for 6 months).

The class runs from 2pm-3.45pm, includes free tea & coffee (bring your own mugs) and free parking.

    Summer Dinner & Dance

Our Summer Dinner & Dance on Friday 11th August is now FULLY BOOKED.

We will have a new Salsa course starting from Monday 11th September.

    Autumn Price Increase

In case you missed our latest news announcement we will be implementing a small price increase from Friday 1st September.

We have kept prices steady since January 2020, even through Covid, but unfortunately we have come to the point of needing to increase prices, as our own costs have risen.

You can take advantage of the current prices until Thursday 31st August and you are welcome to stack packages/sessions.

    Instagram…lovely lavender

As part of their continuing drive to be more eco-conscious Burnham Parish Council have planted lavender on one side of the studio.

Not only will this provide help with saving the bees, but it also brightens up an area that had begun to look very untidy. As always we’re very thankful for the care and attention put into the surroundings and make our studio such a lovely location to visit, even when you’re not dancing.

    Introducing Bachata

    Merengue Class

In our quest to make sure that you can dance to ANY piece of music we are introducing a new dance, the Bachata.

We will be recapping this in all classes this week, except for the Sunday night, Monday night and Wednesday afternoon classes (which will still do Merengue).

Bachata, like Merengue, hails from the Dominican Republic but has a more free-flowing rhythm.

We look forward to introducing you to this fun dance. Going forward the final dance in our rotation will cycle between Merengue, Mambo, and Bachata for all classes except those listed above which will still be Merengue.

    Jive & Waltz Course Extensions

Learn To Dance Group Lesson at Cherry Orchard Studio

Our One Dance Courses in both Waltz & Jive will be extended for an additional 6 weeks.

Those who have attended the previous 6 weeks, or are at least Improver 2 level, are welcome to sign up for the extensions.

Courses cost £45 per person and you can book below (to reserve a space for another person please visit the full booking system).

It is still possible to join the Jive course this week, but it is your last chance on this current extension and you’ll have to contact us to book.

    Sindy Swing Workshop & Social

    Sequence Fun Dance

Our next sequence dance workshop and social will be the Sindy Swing on Sunday 30th July.

These workshops teach the sequence dance, normally between 30-45 minutes (unless it’s Argentine Stroll!), and then are followed up by social ballroom, Latin and sequence dancing.

The session lasts for 2 hours and includes free tea & coffee.

    Summer Dinner & Dance

We’re already over a quarter booked for our Summer Dinner & Dance on Friday 11th August.

The menu includes a selection of sausages, burgers, marinated chicken and halloumi kebabs to choose from. As for sides, coleslaw and potato salad are joined with a rocket salad, trio of tomato and roasted vegetable couscous.

Tickets cost £32.50pp and final numbers are required by 4th August 2023.

To book for another person you will need to visit the full booking system or contact us.

[UPDATE] Votes were cast, guesses were made and the final total of steps by Antony over the exam session was 4,700 (well 4,699 to be exact but he took one more step just to round up).  The winning guesser will be contacted and we hope they enjoy their free FitSteps sessions.

As many of our dance students know, a while ago Antony invested in a smart watch. Not one of those all-singing, all-dancing (forgive the pun) colour screen, take a photo and talk to it watches but rather a simple but powerful Pebble.

    Pebble Watches

What’s the point of a smart watch you may ask, why not just check your phone?  For most working situations that’s probably true – is it more rude to look at your phone or your watch?  But what if you’re teaching a class full of people and your phone goes off, it could be someone trying to find the class, looking to book lessons, or just your mate calling for a catch up.  That’s where Antony finds it useful, plus it does wonders for battery life!

One of the updates his watch recently received was the ability to track ‘fitness’ using its built in technology and the UP for Pebble app by Jawbone.  All day whilst it’s on his wrist it is tracking the steps he takes as well as providing an estimation of the calories burned.

Coupled with the UP app on his phone, Antony is able to get a daily view broken down by time slots.

FitSteps LogoNow I’m sure no one is surprised to learn that our dance fitness class FitSteps (created by Natalie Lowe and Ian Waite from Strictly, and Olympic swimmer Mark Foster) is responsible for a large chunk of Antony’s steps over the course of a day.

According to the app Antony did 14,250 steps on Wednesday 22 October (almost a quarter of a marathon!!!), for an estimated 2,895cal burned.  FitSteps accounted for 2,924 of those steps in the morning.

FitSteps ClassBy our calculations that equates to roughly 585 calories for a 45 minute class or 13 calories per minute.  That’s more than cycling, swimming, cross country skiing or professional basketball (according to this summary of calorie burning activities).

It’s estimated that you can burn up to 600 calories in a FitSteps class and it’s so much more enjoyable than going to the gym (unless you like that sort of thing!).

If you’ve not tried our FitSteps classes yet you can book online for a free trial, or go one better and enter our competition to win a month’s FitSteps sessions.

This Sunday (26th October) Learn To Dance students will be taking their exams.  Antony is partnering for 45 dances over 25 exams and we’re looking for your guesses as to how many steps (as measured by the UP app on Antony’s phone) Antony will dance over the approx. 2 hour exam session.

We have students taking Bronze, Silver and Gold exams as well as our kids Rainbow awards and Antony will be dancing both Ballroom and Latin American dances.

You have until 2pm on Sunday 26th October to send us your guesses either via email to info@want-to-dance.co.uk, or via any of our social media channels.  Only one entry per person.  The prize consists of 4 FitSteps sessions to be used by 31st December 2014.
