A number of commentators on our YouTube Channel have been asking for this following our Saturday Night Fever disco dancing lesson from lockdown 1.0.

The lesson will start with some basic beginner disco dancing moves. As we go through will look to add in variations as well as increase the number of disco steps. The aim to give you confidence to be able to get up on the dance floor and bust out some moves!

If you’re viewing live on YouTube you will also be able to send questions or comments via the Live Chat feature. We won’t be able to see your video feeds so you’ll need to let us know if there’s anything you’re struggling with or would like to see demonstrated again.

For licensing reasons we aren’t using the song Night Fever, but feel free to practice to that song at home if you prefer.

The Dance – Saturday Night Fever

We’ll break the line dance down into bitesize chunks and build up to the full routine, before including the rotating between walls element.

In the movie, the dancers keep repeating the same routine. However they use editing to make sure that the ‘finger point’ always falls on the “Night Fever” chorus. Therefore don’t be surprised, if practicing with the Night Fever music, that you’re not pointing at that point every time.

A few years ago we had a cinema night at the studio, showing the film. Before the screenings at our cinema nights we always run a workshop inspired by the film.

In the workshop for Saturday Night Fever we used a modified Brooklyn Bus Stop, as well as taking other dance elements from throughout the film. The routine is taught over a 45 minute workshop and then we sit and watch the film.

For this routine we choreographed it to Stayin’ Alive, rather than Night Fever. If you want to check out the outcome you can see our video below:

Christmas Party Dance Workshops

In the run-up to Christmas we have two special four week courses to give you options at Christmas Dances and Parties.

For couples we have the Nightclub Two Step, an American partner disco dance that is great for the slow songs. For solo dancers we will be offering a solo disco course. Not necessarily Saturday Night Fever, this is more about how to dance confidently on your own.

The Nightclub Two Step commences on Monday 25th November, and Solo Disco from Thursday 28th November. Both courses cost £25 per person and start at 7pm. Booking can be made online for the courses.

To reserve a space for someone else on our classes or events choose the Full Booking System option from our Booking menu.

Christmas Party and Dance Social

Our Christmas Party and Dance Social takes place on Friday 6th December. The Christmas Party takes place from 7pm-8.30pm and is free for all to attend. There is a welcome drink upon arrival but please bring your own drinks otherwise.

December is also the anniversary of the opening of our Cherry Orchard Dance Studio. We’re celebrating our third year in the studio, so you may have to also put up with a quick speech!

Our Christmas Dance Social then starts from 8.30pm and costs £7 per person. Come along and dance Ballroom and Latin American to a Christmas themed playlist; or just catch up with friends and enjoy the music and dancing.

Dress code is Winter Wonderland (silver/white/gold) appreciated, but as always not compulsory!

You can book on our website. Choose whether you are coming for the whole night, just the party, or just the social dancing.

Strictly Final Pizza Party

Saturday 14th December is scheduled to be the BBC Strictly Come Dancing Final. Each year we host a Strictly Final Party, showing the event on our projector screen for all to enjoy.

Last year we decided it could be fun to have a pizza company preparing freshly made pizzas during the final. It was such a hit that we are repeating the event this year.

Unfortunately last year’s pizza company have retired to start a family. We have therefore engaged another company that come highly recommended – Pizza Pals. They’ll be providing pizzas at a rate of 40mph (margheritas per hour!). There’ll be a couple of topping options as well as garlic bread, salad and sauces.

Exact timings for the final have yet to be released but it’s normally starts around 6.15pm. The final runs straight through without a break until they announce the winner. Doors open at 5.30pm with a welcome drink and pizzas will be served throughout the evening.

The dress code for our Strictly Final Pizza Party is Black Tie or Strictly Sparkle.

Christmas Afternoon Tea Dance

Back in May we held our first Vintage Afternoon Tea Dance. A wonderful selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones were provided and everyone got into the spirit of the event.

Our Christmas schedule this year sees us breaking up a Sunday later than usual. We thought it would be nice to have another Afternoon Tea Dance to see us into the Christmas Break.

This Christmas Afternoon Tea Dance will be held on Sunday 22nd December. A full afternoon tea of sandwiches, scone and cakes will be provided, along with plenty of time for dancing. The theme is a Vintage Christmas, but as with all our events dressing up is not compulsory.

Places are going fast for this event so don’t delay if you want to book. Tickets cost £25 per person and can be booked on our events page.
