Have you always wanted to dance the Charleston but weren’t even sure of the basics? On Sunday 28th February we’ll have our next free live-stream class on YouTube and Charleston has been requested.

How long should our Beginner Basic Charleston lesson be?

We’re in the process of planning the Beginner Basic Charleston class for Sunday. If you want to have your say on the potential lesson length vote now on the community page of our Channel.

What are we going to cover?

Depending on how the voting on lesson length goes will dictate how much we get to cover.

We will however be starting with the Charleston Basic step before looking at a couple of variations.

There’ll be some time spent discussing and explaining the twist action, but beginners may wish to come back to that when they’re more confident.

After that we’ll show you how to have fun with a selection of beginner Charleston steps. Including the Twists, Mess Around and Peckin’.

Finally we’ll teach you a simple routine to be able to practice what we’ve covered.

Where can I watch the Basic Charleston video?

The class will be live on our YouTube Channel at 11.30am on Sunday 28th February 2021. You can also watch it below, as well as on-demand 24hrs after it has been broadcast.

What shall I do whilst I’m waiting?

If you can’t wait until Sunday for your Basic Charleston fix check out our Solo Charleston video from lockdown 1.0:

We hope you enjoy our Charleston videos and do let us know what you’d like to see us cover next.

Chris Hollins & Ola Jordan – Charlston https://learndance.co.uk/2009/12/19/chris-hollins-ola-jordan-charlston/ Sat, 19 Dec 2009 20:55:00 +0000 http://blog.want-to-dance.co.uk/?p=225 Return of the crazy face of Chris Hollins. This is looking improved over their original Charlston, which definitely bodes well. A very good performance, a little untidy in places (though I suspect that’s the essence of the dance) and I’m going to give it a 9.

A great story and performance and the most enjoyable Charlston of the night, seeing as I’ve given an 8 and 9 I’ll have to give this a 10!!!

This week is going to be interesting then – two dances that I’ve never danced (albeit their elements feature in Quickstep and Jive). How to judge a dance you have no experience of…I’ll be in the same boat as Alesha for once!

I know Chris is going for attitude, but I do wish he would keep his mouth shut, or at least do something different than the strange tongue-out look he’s got at the moment!

An interesting routine, very bizarre overall. I think Chris has definitely encapsulated the character of the dance.

I found it a strange experience but I’ll give him an 8.
