UNFORTUNATELY THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. TICKETS PURCHASED WILL EITHER BE REFUNDED, OR PROCEEDS DONATED TO COMIC RELIEF (PURCHASER’S CHOICE)

Following the enormous success of last year’s Ballroom and Latin American Silent Disco we will be running another charity fundraiser. This year the ‘Silent Social’ will take place on Friday 15th March 2024.

This isn’t just any dance event. As you immerse yourself in the music through your personal headphones, you’ll have the freedom to switch between three music channels. Whether you’re in the mood for the elegant sweeps of Ballroom, the fiery rhythms of Latin American, or just some good old general music to groove to, we’ve got your tastes covered. It’s a perfect opportunity for dancers of all levels to enjoy their favorite styles, or even discover a new one!

The headphones also have a light-up LED so you can see which channel everyone is listening too. Including, importantly, your dance partner! You are free to interpret the music however you wish and can switch channels at will.

Ballroom and Latin Silent Disco Tickets & Contribution

For just £20 per person, you can secure your spot at this not-to-be-missed event. But it gets better – every penny of the profits will be donated to Comic Relief, a charity doing incredible work to drive positive change through the power of entertainment. Last year, thanks to the generous spirit of attendees like you, we raised a whopping £600 for Comic Relief. This year, with your support, we’re aiming to top that!

Can’t Make It? You Can Still Support!

If you’re unable to join us in person, there’s still a way to be part of this wonderful cause. Visit our JustGiving page to make a donation. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference.

Last weekend, our dancers came together for the crazy idea of a Ballroom and Latin Silent Disco! The aim was to dance the night away in silence to raise money for Comic Relief. Our Ballroom and Latin American silent disco aimed to raise £250 for charity. We’re excited to announce that we were able to raise over £450 with a number of students donating to our Just Giving page if they were unable to attend.

How Did The Ballroom and Latin Silent Disco Work?

Students were given wireless headphones and had the freedom to choose from two channels playing Ballroom and Latin American music. We even had a third channel playing an ‘Ultimate Party Classics’ playlist for those who fancied something different. All they needed to do to switch channels was press one button and the headphones did the rest.

We believe that dancing is not just a form of exercise but also a great means of self-expression and joy. The silent disco idea allowed students to interpret music in whatever way they wanted, but also carry on conversations if they were sat down.

It was a unique and fun experience that had everyone moving and grooving (and sometimes singing!) on the dance floor.

We would like to thank everyone who attended and supported our Ballroom and Latin Silent Disco. It’s heartwarming to see how our school can come together to make a difference. The funds we raised will go to Comic Relief and Learn To Dance are topping up the fund to cover the cost of the equipment hire, taking the total to over £600!

Overall, our Ballroom and Latin American silent disco was a night to remember. It was a fantastic way to have fun while supporting a great cause. We’re thrilled with the amount of money we raised and grateful to everyone who helped make it happen. Following such positive feedback, stay tuned for our next silent event!

Don’t forget you can find details of our other upcoming social events on our website.

Comic Relief Silent Social Friday 17th March https://learndance.co.uk/2023/01/28/comic-relief-silent-social-disco-friday-17th-march-2023/ Sat, 28 Jan 2023 11:45:43 +0000 https://learndance.co.uk/?p=3822 Learn To Dance will be hosting a 'Silent' Social in aid of Comic Relief on Fri 17th March. A silent disco playing Ballroom & Latin American music.

Come to Learn To Dance on Friday 17th March for our Comic Relief Silent Social. This will be a silent disco using headphones that can tune into three different channels. One channel will be playing Ballroom music, one Latin American, and a third channel with general ‘popular’ music.

For those who haven’t been to a silent disco before everyone wears a pair of headphones playing music that only you can hear. To the casual observer people are dancing around in silence (or maybe singing!). But to the dancer you are immersed in your own personal performance.

Each pair of headphones comes equipped with an LED light to indicate which channel you are listening to. We’d highly recommend, if dancing with a partner, that you both listen to the same channel!!!

This does mean that whilst one couple are dancing Waltz, another couple could be Jiving. In fact still more could be solo dancing to Abba or David Guetta. Spectators can even play guess the dance (especially if there appears to be some variations in interpretation).

Yes it’s going to be carnage, but that’s why we chose Red Nose Day from Comic Relief!

This promises to be a brand new experience from our regular monthly social dances. It may even be the first time this has ever been attempted for Ballroom & Latin.

Book or Donate to the Comic Relief Silent Social Fundraiser

We will be strictly limiting numbers for this event, and it is pre-booked only. However even if you can’t attend (or wish to contribute an additional donation), we have a JustGiving page set up.

Tickets for our Comic Relief Silent Social cost £20 per person. This does include the hire of all the equipment so all you need to do is turn up and dance.

To reserve a space for another person please visit the full booking system, or you can book for yourself using the option below:

Last year we were approached to help the NSPCC raise money for its Childline Service via a Charity Surprise Ball. The idea was to have a virtual event on YouTube, with advance ticket purchases providing access to the link.

Given that this was raising money for a children’s charity we felt one of Antony & Imogen’s lessons for kids would make the perfect addition.

The NSPCC looked through our catalog of videos and loved our Learn To Charleston – Kid’s Edition video. We also arranged for a local juvenile dance partnership to provide a dance demo too.

The NSPCC Surprise Ball

The Ball was compered by magician Michael King and also included an appearance from Childline founder Dame Esther Rantzen.

There were exclusive performances from Brit Award winner Beth Orton and Platinum selling artist Andrea Corr, plus an appearance from Childline Counsellor Suzie Daubeney.

Featuring a variety of magic tricks throughout, plus the dance demonstration and Charleston lesson, it’s an hour well spent if you’re looking for some entertainment.

You can catch up with the full Ball video below. Please consider donating to the NSPCC Surprise Ball by visiting their JustGiving page.

Childline Purpose and Total Raised

The NSPCC Surprise Ball was launched to directly raise funds towards Childline, after a significant increase in calls during the first lockdown.

Between 23 March and 10 May 2020, the NSPCC Childline Service delivered more than 30,000 counselling sessions that helped to deal with the top FIVE main concerns of young people:

  • Mental / emotional health
  • Suicidal thoughts and feelings
  • Family relationships
  • Self-harm
  • Sex / relationships / puberty

So far the NSPCC Surprise Ball video has raised £17,000 for Childline!

Below is a breakdown as how this money could be spent:

  • £16,000 will pay to recruit & train & support 10 New Childline Volunteers
  • £900 will pay for 5 days of helping children get back on track following abuse
  • £100 pays for a trained volunteer counsellor to answer 20+ calls

I’m sure you’ll agree that is a fantastic result and we’re so honoured to have been involved in such a worthwhile cause. We’d really love to help them break the £20,000 barrier so please help us by donating today.
