Catch up on our Solo Argentine Tango dance routine from our April 2021 live-stream. Including our full lesson breakdown video a demo of just the routine, plus a playlist.

We’ve put together a Solo Argentine Tango dance routine for you, incorporating a selection of basic Argentine Tango steps. Lesson breakdown and timestamps to jump ahead below.

Our apologies also as it appears there were a few connection issues during the lesson so we had to make a couple of cuts, but you don’t miss any of the tuition thankfully. Hopefully it doesn’t affect your ability to enjoy the class but we will be moving to pre-recorded classes for future videos.

Solo Argentine Tango full lesson videos

You can find the full lesson video below as well as a demo of just the routine too:

Full Lesson

Routine Demo

Want to see a demo of the full Solo Argentine Tango routine? You can find our summary video below:

Full Solo Lesson Breakdown

You can find a breakdown for the lesson elements below:

[00:01:09] The routine starts with a Reverse Basic danced as both leader and follower. Before a Left Giro danced as a leader [00:05:50].

[00:08:30] We then introduce some Ganchos to finish off our first section (and we’ll finish the routine with these too).

We repeat the Basics and Left Giro.

[00:13:07] The Right Giro as a follower comes next once we’ve repeated the basics. There was a slight issue with our connection at around 15 minutes but it was restored and we go over the moves again for you so nothing is missed.

[00:18:51] Our final sequence is called the Fan (with a little flourish!).

There will be some tricky moments in the Solo Argentine Tango routine but we hope you’ll enjoy it as much as our students.

[00:25:30] Is our run through of the routine to music.

Argentine Tango Music Playlist

An Argentine Tango music playlist for practicing the individual movements can be found below:

Not looking for Solo Argentine Tango? We also have a Partner Argentine Tango routine as well as a lesson looking at the Sequence Dance Argentine Stroll.

We hope you enjoy this routine and keep an eye on our YouTube channel for all our videos.

The Electric Slide (AKA The Candy Dance) https://learndance.co.uk/2021/04/12/the-electric-slide-candy-dance-beginner-steps/ Mon, 12 Apr 2021 11:18:52 +0000 https://learndance.co.uk/?p=3218 Learn to Dance The Electric Slide, aka The Candy Dance, with this beginner basic guide. We also show how to add moves to make it your own.

The post The Electric Slide (AKA The Candy Dance) appeared first on Learn To Dance.

]]>
Have you ever wondered how to dance The Electric Slide (also known as The Candy Dance)? We’ve been asked a few times recently by students to teach them the dance for parties they’re attending. Today’s lesson therefore moves on from our Beginner Guide To Disco Dancing and Saturday Night Fever lessons.

[00:00:41] We start off by showing you the first basic move of the Electric Slide. It starts with a slow chasse to the right, and back to the left again. This is followed by three walks back with a tap. To allow us to repeat this initial sequence we’ll briefly use three walks forward.

[00:03:35] Next up we finish off the routine by replacing the walks forward with the step tap and turn. This results in a quarter turn anti-clockwise to then repeat the routine facing the next wall.

Now we start to show options that you can include to make the Electric Slide routine your own. You can see a few of these options in the Candy Dance scene of the movie The Best Man.

[00:08:38] The first variation we show you is to replace the Chasse action with a Grapevine. You can choose to cross in front, or behind, or switch between.

[00:12:11] You can choose to replace the original chasse with a syncopated chasse movement.

[00:15:15] Then we talked about a few different options that you can use during the step-tap options. Whether you want to click, clap or introduce a lasso.

[00:17:56] Finally you could choose to replace your chasse or grapevine options with a spin.

[00:20:15] We finish up with a final practice of the Electric Slide routine.

The Electric Slide (aka Candy Dance) Video Lesson

We hope you enjoyed our The Electric Slide lesson. Hopefully next time someone asks if you know the Candy Dance, or Electric Slide, it’ll be an emphatic yes!

Music Dance Playlist

A popular song choice for this is Candy by Cameo (hence it is often referred to as The Candy Dance). For music licensing reasons we use a variety of different tracks but similar speeds.

All of our song choices work well for the Electric Slide and you can enjoy our playlist below:

Using moves inspired by dance scenes from the movie (no lifts!).

In case you missed our Dirty Dancing beginner solo routine lesson on YouTube, or just want to try it again, this is for you.

We originally taught this in one of our Cinema Night events. In these events we teach a dance routine inspired by the film that we’re about to watch.

Moves from throughout the Dirty Dancing film are incorporated to put together a fun beginner solo dance routine.

Hopefully the routine will be easy to pick up. It doesn’t matter then if you’re a complete beginner or don’t have any basic dance moves.

The routine has been choreographed to Do You Love Me – the Dave Arch Strictly Band version. Our original cinema night version was to the Contours version and is a slightly longer routine. However all the component elements are the same.

You can find the full lesson below. If you want to skip ahead to just the Dirty Dancing beginner routine click here.

We hope you enjoy the lesson and keep an eye on our YouTube channel for all of our videos.

Beginner Basic Viennese Waltz Solo Dancing YouTube Lesson https://learndance.co.uk/2021/03/29/beginner-basic-viennese-waltz-solo-dancing-youtube-lesson/ Mon, 29 Mar 2021 21:03:21 +0000 https://learndance.co.uk/?p=3154 Want to know how to dance basic beginner Viennese Waltz steps? We cover all the standard Viennese Waltz steps, from Change Steps to Fleckerls

The post Beginner Basic Viennese Waltz Solo Dancing YouTube Lesson appeared first on Learn To Dance.

]]>
Our weekly YouTube live-stream this week looked at how to dance the Basic Beginner Viennese Waltz dance steps.

We actually ended up looking at the entire syllabus of Viennese Waltz (there are only seven steps). This did mean we covered the Reverse & Natural Fleckerls (Gold level).

Hopefully we have been able to simplify them enough to understand the basic components.

What do we cover in the Beginner Basic Viennese Waltz Lesson?

The Viennese Waltz Basics – Forward & Backward Change Steps

Initially we started the class looking at forward and backward change steps in a straight line. Once the basics had been covered we alternated our forward and back change steps; this time rotating in a box formation whilst also discussing swing and sway.

The option to introduce swing or not really depends on the space that you have available. If you have the space you should try to include it though if you are able.

Natural & Reverse Turns

Next up were the staple moves of your standard Beginner Basic Viennese Waltz. First we looked at the Natural Turn, a clockwise rotation aiming to turn 360o over the six steps. We also discussed how important sway is in keeping your balance.

Some simple sway movements are incorporated to allow us to repeat the turn back and forward in a straight line. We danced the turns on a diagonal to maximise the available space.

Following a practice we then looked at how the Reverse Turn differs, with a crossing action on the forward part. The turn also rotates anti-clockwise. We kept the move to the same pattern as the Natural Turn though, with sways at either end.

Reverse Fleckerl, Contra Check & Natural Fleckerl

Now we get into the difficult steps of our Viennese Waltz. The Fleckerls and Contra Check are not basic beginner Viennese Waltz steps, but we felt the lesson would be more interesting if we included them! For the purposes of the class we taught them from the leader’s perspective.

To help beginners to understand the basic steps of the Fleckerls we began with the Reverse Fleckerl. This should be a spinning rotational step anti-clockwise on the spot. However to help you understand the moves that make up the step we taught it as a travelling movement around the outside.

Alternating two left foot crosses in front, with a left foot cross behind and side steps in between, we moved around three walls of our room. Antony then demonstrates briefly how you would do this rotating around on the spot.

We touch briefly on the Contra Check as a means of changing feet and direction, before looking at the Natural Fleckerl (again around the outside of the room).

Beginner dancers may wish to keep practicing these Fleckerls around the outside of the room. Once you have mastered the pattern with the feet you can then start to introduce rotation of the spot (as much as you are comfortable with).

You can see the full Basic Beginner Viennese Waltz lesson below. We have also included the timestamps should you wish to skip ahead to particular moves.

Fun Solo Dance Routine

At the end of our live-stream Beginner classes we always like to throw in a simple routine that incorporates all the moves we’ve learnt.

The Viennese Waltz routine was a little bit more complicated, due mainly to the Fleckerls, and so we recorded a demo both with and without the rotation.

Viennese Waltz Dance Playlist from the Beginner Basic Lesson

To help you practice your Beginner Basic Viennese Waltz dance steps we have uploaded a playlist of the music from the lesson. We have a selection of speeds as well as a mix between traditional songs and more contemporary pieces.

We hope you enjoy the Viennese Waltz music playlist.

Have fun with your Viennese Waltz, and keep an eye on our YouTube channel for our next live-stream dance class.

Do you want to know how to dance a few of the basic beginner Cha Cha Cha dance steps? This beginner class will show you how to dance the basic Cha Cha Cha on your own.

What Do We Cover in the Beginner Basic Cha Cha Lesson?

The Cha Cha Basic – Closed, Open & In Place

We start the class off with the Basic in Place, using weight changes to practice our Cha Cha Cha technique and timing.

Once we’ve mastered that we then look at applying the technique to the Closed Basic, which tends to be the standard basic move. It should also be normally rotated, although most teachers (including us) would tend to teach it straight to complete beginners.

Next up is our final basic option the Open Basic. This involves taking the chasse forward and back with a locking action.

New Yorks & Hand to Hands with Spot Turn ending

Once we’d covered all the basic beginner Cha Cha options we then introduced a New Yorks with Spot Turn ending. Sometimes these are also known as New Yorkers. Here the basic movement involves turning a quarter turn and stepping across yourself from one side to the other.

A similar move is the Hand to Hands, which involves a quarter turn in the opposite direction to the New Yorks, so that you end up stepping back rather than through the middle. We’ll also finish this with a Spot Turn for the moment too.

There and Back and Side Steps

The next move introduced is called the There and Back. This involves two weight changes on the spot (like the Basic in Place) before a three step run backwards, a back rock, and then three runs forward. When danced with a partner you would mirror their movement, running away from each other before coming back in again.

Finally we introduced a move that we don’t normally teach our regular students – Side Steps to Left and Right. It’s easy to confuse yourself with these so just take it slowly and get used to whether you’re starting each section with a weight change or a side step.

Beginner Basic Cha Cha Cha Lesson Video

Want to skip ahead to particular moves? You can find the timestamps below:

[00:01:07] Basic in Place
[00:06:17] Closed Basic
[00:10:26] Rotating the Basic
[00:13:35] Open Basic
[00:18:58] New Yorks, with Spot Turn ending
[00:22:23] Hand to Hands, with Spot Turn ending
[00:25:08] There and Back
[00:27:21] Side Steps to left and right
[00:30:22] Solo Dance Routine
[00:37:16] Solo Routine to Music

Fun Solo Dance Routine

Once we’d covered all the steps we began teaching you a simple solo Cha Cha Cha dance routine to practice all the steps learnt.

The routine features all of the basic beginner steps and we’ll talk you through it as we dance, after a brief recap of the routine.

Cha Cha Cha Dance Music Playlist

We have also uploaded a Cha Cha Cha Dance Music playlist that you can use for practice. With a selection of slow and quick songs, as well as a mixture of traditional and contemporary.

We hope you enjoy the Cha Cha Cha music playlist.

Join us for a Basic Beginner Samba class on YouTube

On Sunday 14th March 2021 we held another free live-stream class on YouTube, this time a Beginner Basic Samba dance class.

In this class we started with the Samba Reverse Basic. This is a step forward with the left foot, a bounce on the spot, and then a step back with the right foot (repeating the bounce).

Some time is then spent discussing the Samba pelvic action, using a mild thrusting action by ‘pulling in’ your belly button.

Next we introduce the Samba Whisk. This is a side step with a bounced cross behind.

The Stationary Samba Walk followed which involves a close with one foot, a point back with the other, and a slip back of the front foot. When you then do the subsequent close on the next foot it is closed slightly forward (where you had originally started) to keep the overall movement on the spot.

Bota Fogos are introduced next, moving forward and backward before we start looking at the Voltas. Initially we do our Voltas in straight lines, at both half and then full speed, before looking at the Solo Spot Volta that rotates around on the spot.

Finally, just when we need a little breather, there’s a basic Rhythm Bounce.

Watch the Beginner Basic Samba Lesson

You can watch the roughly 30 minute lesson below. If you want to jump ahead to certain moves we’ve included the timestamps below it:

On Sunday 14th February 2021 we’re going to teach you our Solo Waltz Dance Routine. This is to Eydie Gorme’s version of Fly Me To The Moon (originally In Other Words).

This video gives you a taster of what we’re going to be teaching you in our special Valentine’s Day lesson. Antony will demonstrate the entire routine to music, giving audio cues throughout.

The dance starts at a Viennese Waltz pace before slowing down into a Slow Waltz. You may want to focus on the feet first of all, and then when you’re feeling confident look at introducing the arms.

With our live-stream on Sunday Antony will take you through the solo Waltz dance routine step-by-step. Hopefully by the end you’ll then feel confident to practice the routine without our help.

What steps are in the solo Waltz dance routine?

Our solo Waltz incorporates a number of Slow Waltz dance steps:

  • Box Steps both forward and backward
  • Reverse Turns as a leader
  • Natural Turns as a follower
  • Change Steps both forward and backward
  • Whisk as a leader
  • Left Whisk as a leader
  • Wing as a follower
